Duke Maurice of Saxony
Duke Maurice of Saxony (1521-1553) was a significant figure in the Holy Roman Empire during the 16th century. He was a member of the House of Wettin and became the Duke of Saxony in 1541. Maurice is known for his military leadership and played a crucial role in the Smalkaldic War, where he fought against the Lutheran princes.
In addition to his military achievements, Maurice was a key political player in the Reformation era. He sought to unify the Protestant states and was instrumental in the formation of the League of Torgau. His reign ended when he died in a battle against the Habsburgs in 1553.
