Caesarea Philippi
Caesarea Philippi is an ancient city located at the base of Mount Hermon in northern Israel. It was originally known as Paneas and was a significant center for the worship of the Greek god Pan. The city was later renamed by Herod Philip, a son of Herod the Great, in honor of the Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus.
The site is notable for its archaeological remains, including temples, a large rock formation, and a spring that feeds the Jordan River. Caesarea Philippi is also mentioned in the New Testament as the location where Jesus asked his disciples about his identity, making it an important site for both historical and religious studies.
