Bactrian Treasure
The Bactrian Treasure is a collection of ancient artifacts discovered in the 1970s in the region of Bactria, which is located in present-day Afghanistan. This treasure dates back to the Greco-Bactrian period, around the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century CE, and includes gold jewelry, coins, and various decorative items. The artifacts showcase the rich cultural exchange between Greek, Persian, and local influences.
The treasure was found in a series of burial mounds near the city of Tillya Tepe. It is considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Central Asia, providing insights into the trade routes and cultural interactions of the time. The Bactrian Treasure is now housed in the National Museum of Afghanistan in Kabul, although many pieces have been displayed internationally.
