Tillya Tepe
Tillya Tepe is an ancient burial site located in northern Afghanistan, near the Oxus River. Discovered in 1978, it dates back to the 1st century BCE and is known for its rich collection of artifacts, including gold jewelry, coins, and decorative items. The site is believed to be linked to the Greco-Bactrian culture, showcasing a blend of Hellenistic and local influences.
The excavation of Tillya Tepe revealed six burial mounds, with the most significant being the so-called "Gold Mound." The artifacts found here provide valuable insights into the trade and cultural exchanges that occurred along the Silk Road. Today, Tillya Tepe is recognized for its historical importance and contribution to our understanding of ancient civilizations in the region.
