African American Sororities
African American sororities are social organizations for women that focus on sisterhood, scholarship, and service. They are part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), which includes nine historically Black Greek-letter organizations. These sororities provide support and networking opportunities for their members while promoting academic excellence and community involvement.
Founded in the early 20th century, the first African American sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was established in 1908. Other notable sororities include Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.. These organizations have played a significant role in advocating for civil rights and social justice within the African American community.
