Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are institutions of higher education established primarily to serve the African American community. They were founded during a time when racial segregation prevented Black students from attending predominantly white colleges. HBCUs play a crucial role in providing access to education and fostering a supportive environment for Black students. Today, there are over 100 HBCUs across the United States, offering a wide range of academic programs. Many HBCUs, such as Howard University and Spelman College, are known for their strong emphasis on research, community service, and cultural heritage, contributing significantly to the education and empowerment of African Americans.
