龙舟节
龙舟节, or the Dragon Boat Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. This festival commemorates the ancient poet and statesman 屈原 (Qu Yuan), who drowned himself in the Miluo River to protest against corruption. To honor his memory, people race 龙舟 (dragon boats) and prepare special foods.
During the festival, families often eat 粽子 (zongzi), which are sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. The races feature teams paddling in unison to the beat of drums, creating a lively and competitive atmosphere. The Dragon Boat Festival is a time for community bonding and cultural celebration.
