東大寺
東大寺 (Tōdai-ji) is a historic temple located in 奈良 (Nara), Japan. Founded in the 8th century, it is one of the most significant Buddhist temples in the country. The temple is famous for its Great Buddha Hall, known as 大仏殿 (Daibutsuden), which houses a giant bronze statue of 大仏 (Daibutsu), representing 釈迦牟尼 (Shakyamuni).
Tōdai-ji is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and serves as the head temple of the 東大寺宗 (Tōdai-ji sect) of 日本仏教 (Japanese Buddhism). The temple complex includes several other important structures and gardens, attracting many visitors and pilgrims each year.
