The white rhino is one of the largest species of rhinoceros, native to southern Africa. It has a broad mouth designed for grazing on grass and can weigh up to 2,300 kilograms (5,000 pounds). There are two subspecies: the Southern white rhino and the critically endangered Northern white rhino. White rhinos are social animals, often found in groups called crashes. They have a thick, protective skin and can run at speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour (25 miles per hour). Conservation efforts are crucial for their survival due to threats from poaching and habitat loss.
