Northern white rhino
The Northern white rhino is a subspecies of the white rhinoceros, native to East and Central Africa. It is characterized by its large size, two horns, and a broad mouth adapted for grazing on grasses. Once abundant, the population has drastically declined due to poaching and habitat loss, leaving only two known individuals alive today, both females.
Conservation efforts are ongoing to save the Northern white rhino from extinction. Scientists are exploring advanced reproductive techniques, such as in vitro fertilization, to create viable embryos using genetic material from deceased rhinos. These efforts aim to increase the population and preserve this iconic species for future generations.
