tapirs
Tapirs are large, herbivorous mammals found in tropical forests and grasslands of Central America and South America, as well as parts of Southeast Asia. They have a distinctive appearance, with a stout body, short legs, and a long, flexible snout that resembles a trunk. Tapirs are excellent swimmers and often seek refuge in water to escape predators.
There are four species of tapirs: the Brazilian tapir, Baird's tapir, Malayan tapir, and Mountain tapir. They primarily feed on leaves, fruits, and aquatic plants. Tapirs play a crucial role in their ecosystems by helping to disperse seeds, contributing to the health of their habitats.
