Brazilian tapir
The Brazilian tapir, also known as the South American tapir, is a large herbivorous mammal native to the rainforests and grasslands of Brazil and surrounding countries. It has a stout body, short legs, and a distinctive long snout that resembles a trunk. Adult tapirs can weigh between 400 to 900 pounds and are typically brown or gray with lighter markings.
These animals are primarily nocturnal and are excellent swimmers, often found near water sources. They feed on leaves, fruits, and aquatic plants, playing a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping to disperse seeds. The Brazilian tapir is currently listed as vulnerable due to habitat loss and hunting.
