Mountain tapir
The Mountain tapir is a unique species of tapir found primarily in the high-altitude regions of the Andes mountains in South America. It is the smallest of the four tapir species, typically weighing between 220 to 330 pounds. Mountain tapirs have a thick, woolly coat that helps them adapt to cold environments, and they are known for their distinctive short, stocky legs and elongated snouts.
These animals are herbivorous, primarily feeding on leaves, fruits, and grasses. Mountain tapirs play a crucial role in their ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal. Unfortunately, they are classified as endangered due to habitat loss and hunting, making conservation efforts essential for their survival.
