noctambulism
Noctambulism, commonly known as sleepwalking, is a sleep disorder characterized by walking or performing other complex behaviors while in a state of sleep. It typically occurs during the slow-wave sleep phase, which is part of the non-REM sleep cycle. Sleepwalkers may appear awake but are usually unaware of their actions and have little to no memory of the event upon waking.
This condition is more prevalent in children but can also affect adults. Factors such as stress, sleep deprivation, and certain medications can trigger episodes. While noctambulism is generally harmless, it can lead to accidents or injuries if the sleepwalker encounters obstacles during their activities.
