Parasomnia
Parasomnia refers to a group of sleep disorders characterized by abnormal behaviors, movements, or experiences during sleep. These can include actions like sleepwalking, night terrors, and sleep talking. Parasomnias often occur during transitions between sleep stages and can disrupt both the individual’s sleep and that of others nearby.
Common causes of parasomnia include stress, sleep deprivation, and certain medications. While many children experience parasomnias, they can also affect adults. Treatment options may involve improving sleep hygiene, addressing underlying issues, or, in some cases, medication. Understanding sleep disorders is essential for managing these conditions effectively.
