kōkō
Kōkō, or high school in Japanese, is an educational institution that typically serves students aged 15 to 18. It follows the completion of chūgakkō (junior high school) and is part of the Japanese education system. Kōkō offers a range of academic and vocational programs, preparing students for university or the workforce.
In Japan, kōkō is not mandatory, but most students choose to attend. The curriculum includes subjects like mathematics, science, literature, and foreign languages. Extracurricular activities, such as sports and cultural clubs, are also an important aspect of the kōkō experience, promoting teamwork and personal development.
