Zaydi sect
The Zaydi sect is a branch of Shia Islam that primarily follows the teachings of Zayd ibn Ali, the grandson of Husayn ibn Ali. Zaydis are mainly found in Yemen, where they have historically played a significant role in the region's politics and culture. Unlike other Shia groups, Zaydis believe in the right of any qualified descendant of Ali ibn Abi Talib to lead the community, not just those from the line of Imam Ali.
Zaydi beliefs emphasize the importance of social justice and the responsibility of the community to rise against tyranny. They practice a form of Islamic jurisprudence that is distinct from both Sunni and other Shia traditions, focusing on the Quran and the teachings of the early imams. The Zaydi community has faced various challenges, including political conflicts and sectarian tensions, particularly in recent years.
