Yukaghirs
The Yukaghirs are an indigenous people of northeastern Siberia, primarily residing in the Yukaghir Autonomous Okrug and surrounding areas. They speak the Yukaghir language, which is part of the Paleo-Siberian language family. Traditionally, the Yukaghirs engaged in hunting, fishing, and reindeer herding, relying on the rich natural resources of their environment.
Historically, the Yukaghirs have faced significant cultural and social changes due to Russian colonization and modernization. Today, they maintain aspects of their traditional lifestyle while also integrating into the broader Russian society. Efforts are ongoing to preserve their language and cultural heritage amidst these changes.
