Yde Girl
The "Yde Girl" is a well-preserved bog body discovered in 1897 in the Yde peat bog in the Netherlands. She is believed to have lived during the Iron Age, around 54 B.C. to 128 A.D. The remains of the girl, estimated to be around 16 years old, provide valuable insights into ancient European cultures and burial practices.
The Yde Girl's body shows signs of having been deliberately placed in the bog, possibly as a ritual sacrifice. Her skin and hair were remarkably preserved due to the unique conditions of the peat bog, which prevents decay. This discovery has contributed significantly to the study of archaeology and ancient history.
