Yaska
Yaska was an ancient Indian scholar and linguist, known for his significant contributions to the study of Sanskrit. He is best known for his work, the Nirukta, which is one of the earliest texts on etymology and semantics in the Sanskrit language. Yaska's analysis of words and their meanings laid the foundation for later linguistic studies in India.
Yaska is often associated with the Vedic tradition, as his work aimed to explain the meanings of words found in the Vedas. His insights helped preserve the understanding of ancient texts and influenced subsequent scholars, including Panini, who further developed the rules of Sanskrit grammar.
