Yarmouk Camp
Yarmouk Camp is a Palestinian refugee camp located in the outskirts of Damascus, Syria. Established in 1957, it was initially intended to provide housing for Palestinians displaced during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Over the years, it grew into a vibrant community with schools, markets, and cultural institutions.
The camp has faced significant challenges, especially during the Syrian Civil War, which began in 2011. It became a battleground, leading to severe humanitarian crises, including food shortages and displacement. Many residents have fled, while others remain trapped, facing ongoing violence and hardship.
