White Revolution
The "White Revolution," also known as Operation Flood, was a significant dairy development program launched in India in 1970. It aimed to increase milk production, augment rural incomes, and provide fair prices for consumers. The initiative was spearheaded by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and focused on creating a nationwide milk grid, linking milk producers directly to consumers.
The program transformed India into one of the largest milk producers in the world. It introduced cooperative models, empowering local farmers and enhancing their livelihoods. The success of the White Revolution is often attributed to the visionary leadership of Verghese Kurien, known as the "Father of the White Revolution."
