Operation Flood
Operation Flood was a major dairy development program launched in India in 1970. It aimed to create a nationwide milk grid, increase milk production, and provide fair prices to both producers and consumers. The initiative was spearheaded by the National Dairy Development Board and was based on the successful model of the Anand Milk Union Limited in Gujarat.
The program transformed India into one of the largest milk producers in the world. It established a cooperative structure that empowered local dairy farmers, improved milk processing, and enhanced distribution networks. As a result, Operation Flood significantly boosted rural incomes and improved nutrition across the country.
