Victorian Era Education
The Victorian Era, spanning from 1837 to 1901, saw significant changes in education in Britain. Education became more accessible, especially for children, with the introduction of compulsory schooling in 1880. Schools focused on basic literacy, numeracy, and moral instruction, often emphasizing discipline and hard work.
During this time, the Education Act of 1870 established the framework for public education, leading to the creation of elementary schools. While boys and girls were educated separately, girls' education began to improve, with subjects like reading, writing, and needlework being taught. However, higher education opportunities remained limited for women.
