Viceroys of India
The Viceroys of India were the representatives of the British monarch in India during the period of British rule, from 1858 to 1947. They were responsible for overseeing the administration of British India, implementing policies, and maintaining order. The role was significant in shaping India's political landscape and managing relations with various Indian states.
Each viceroy had considerable power and influence, often making critical decisions regarding governance and colonial policies. Notable viceroys include Lord Curzon, who implemented major reforms, and Lord Mountbatten, the last viceroy, who oversaw the transition to Indian independence in 1947.
