Lord Mountbatten
Lord Mountbatten, born Louis Mountbatten in 1900, was a British naval officer and statesman. He served as the last Viceroy of India from 1947, overseeing the transition of British India to independence. He was a key figure in the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan.
Mountbatten was also a member of the British royal family, being the uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He held various military positions during his career, including Chief of Combined Operations during World War II. Tragically, he was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army in 1979.
