United Liberation Front of Assam
The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) is a separatist militant organization based in the Indian state of Assam. Founded in 1979, its primary goal is to establish a sovereign Assam by advocating for the rights of the Assamese people and opposing perceived exploitation by the Indian government. The group has been involved in various violent activities, including bombings and kidnappings, which have led to significant unrest in the region.
ULFA has faced military action from the Indian government, resulting in a decline in its influence over the years. The organization has also seen internal divisions, leading to the emergence of factions with differing ideologies. Efforts for peace talks have been made, but challenges remain in addressing the underlying issues of identity and autonomy for the Assamese people.
