United Liberation Front of Asom
The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) is a separatist militant organization based in the Indian state of Assam. Founded in 1979, its primary goal is to establish an independent Assamese state, free from Indian control. The group emerged in response to perceived cultural and economic marginalization of the Assamese people.
ULFA has been involved in various violent activities, including bombings and kidnappings, which have led to significant conflict in the region. The Indian government has designated ULFA as a terrorist organization, and efforts to negotiate peace have been ongoing, with varying degrees of success over the years.
