Undescended Testicle
An undescended testicle, or cryptorchidism, is a condition where one or both testicles fail to move down into the scrotum before birth. Normally, testicles descend during the last few months of pregnancy, but in some cases, they may remain in the abdomen or inguinal canal. This condition is more common in premature infants and can affect fertility and increase the risk of testicular cancer if not treated.
Treatment for an undescended testicle usually involves a surgical procedure called orchidopexy, which repositions the testicle into the scrotum. This surgery is typically performed before the child turns one year old. Early intervention is important to ensure normal development and reduce potential complications associated with this condition.
