Trelawny Maroons
The Trelawny Maroons are a group of descendants from enslaved Africans who escaped plantations in Jamaica during the 18th century. They established independent communities in the mountainous regions of Trelawny Parish, where they developed a unique culture and way of life. The Maroons are known for their resistance against British colonial forces, particularly during the First Maroon War (1728-1739).
The Trelawny Maroons maintain a rich heritage that includes traditional music, dance, and spiritual practices. They are recognized for their historical significance in the fight for freedom and self-determination. Today, the Maroons continue to celebrate their identity and preserve their customs, contributing to Jamaica's diverse cultural landscape.
