Totonac people
The Totonac people are an indigenous group primarily located in the eastern region of Mexico, particularly in the states of Veracruz and Puebla. They have a rich cultural heritage, known for their traditional practices, language, and vibrant festivals. The Totonac language belongs to the Totonaquian family, and many Totonacs still speak it today.
Historically, the Totonac civilization is famous for its contributions to Mesoamerican culture, including the construction of the ancient city of El Tajín. They are also recognized for their unique customs, such as the Voladores de Papantla ceremony, which involves a ritual dance and flying from a tall pole, symbolizing their connection to nature and spirituality.
