Voladores de Papantla
The Voladores de Papantla is a traditional Mexican ritual that originates from the Totonac culture in the state of Veracruz. It involves a group of five performers who climb a tall pole, where four of them are tied to ropes and descend while spinning around the pole. The fifth performer, known as the "caporal," remains at the top, playing a flute and drum to guide the ritual.
This ancient ceremony symbolizes the connection between the earth and the sky, representing fertility and the renewal of life. The Voladores are recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, highlighting their significance in Mexican culture and tradition.
