Third Servile War
The Third Servile War, also known as the Gladiator War, occurred from 73 to 71 BCE in ancient Rome. It was a major slave uprising led by the gladiator Spartacus and involved thousands of enslaved people seeking freedom. The conflict began when Spartacus and about 70 fellow gladiators escaped from a training school and formed a rebel army.
The rebellion gained momentum as more slaves joined, challenging the Roman Republic's authority. Despite initial successes, the revolt was eventually crushed by Roman forces led by generals like Crassus and Pompey. The war ended with the defeat of Spartacus and his followers, leading to severe repercussions for enslaved people in Rome.
