Thành Thái was the 10th emperor of the Nguyễn dynasty in Vietnam, reigning from 1889 to 1907. Born on March 14, 1879, he became emperor at a young age after the abdication of his father, Emperor Đồng Khánh. His reign was marked by efforts to modernize the country and resistance against French colonial rule. However, Thành Thái faced significant challenges, including political instability and foreign intervention. In 1907, he was deposed by the French and exiled to Réunion Island. He returned to Vietnam in 1916 but lived the rest of his life in relative obscurity until his death on March 26, 1957.
