Tamil Shaivism
Tamil Shaivism is a major tradition within the broader Shaivism faith, primarily practiced in the Tamil Nadu region of southern India. It emphasizes the worship of Lord Shiva as the supreme deity and incorporates rich philosophical teachings, devotional practices, and vibrant temple rituals.
The tradition is deeply rooted in ancient Tamil literature, particularly the Tirukkural and the works of the Nayanars, a group of saint-poets who expressed their devotion through poetry. Tamil Shaivism also plays a significant role in the cultural and spiritual identity of the Tamil people, influencing art, music, and dance.
