TWA Flight 847
On June 14, 1985, TWA Flight 847, a commercial flight from Athens to San Diego, was hijacked shortly after takeoff. The aircraft, a Boeing 727, was taken over by members of the Hezbollah group, leading to a tense standoff that lasted several days. The hijackers demanded the release of prisoners held in Israel and threatened the lives of passengers and crew.
The flight was diverted to Beirut, where passengers were held hostage. Over the course of the ordeal, some passengers were released, while others faced violence. The crisis ended on June 30, 1985, when the remaining hostages were freed after negotiations.
