Pan Am Flight 103
On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103, a scheduled transatlantic flight from London to New York City, was tragically destroyed by a bomb over Lockerbie, Scotland. The explosion killed all 259 people on board, including 190 Americans, and 11 residents on the ground.
The investigation revealed that the bombing was linked to a terrorist group based in Libya. In 2001, a Libyan intelligence officer, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, was convicted for his role in the attack, marking a significant moment in the fight against international terrorism and leading to strained relations between Libya and the United States.
