Southern White Rhinoceros
The Southern White Rhinoceros is one of the largest species of rhinoceros, native to southern Africa. It has a broad, square-shaped mouth adapted for grazing on grasses. This species can weigh up to 2,300 kilograms (5,000 pounds) and stands about 1.5 meters (5 feet) tall at the shoulder.
Conservation efforts have helped increase its population, which was once critically low due to poaching and habitat loss. Today, the Southern White Rhinoceros is classified as near threatened by the IUCN and is primarily found in protected areas and national parks across South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
