South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO)
The South West Africa People's Organization, or SWAPO, is a political party in Namibia that was founded in 1960. It emerged as a liberation movement fighting against South African rule in South West Africa, which is now known as Namibia. SWAPO aimed to achieve independence for the region and was recognized as the legitimate representative of the Namibian people by the United Nations.
After years of armed struggle and negotiations, Namibia gained independence in 1990, and SWAPO became the ruling party. The organization has since focused on nation-building and development, playing a significant role in shaping the country's political landscape and policies.
