Smeaton's Tower
Smeaton's Tower is a famous lighthouse located on Eddystone Rocks off the coast of Cornwall, England. Built between 1756 and 1759, it was designed by engineer John Smeaton and is known for its distinctive red and white stripes. The lighthouse stands 23 meters tall and was the first to be constructed using hydraulic lime, which made it more durable against harsh sea conditions.
In 1882, Smeaton's Tower was decommissioned and replaced by a new lighthouse. However, it was preserved and moved to Plymouth Hoe, where it now serves as a popular tourist attraction. The tower is recognized as an important example of 18th-century lighthouse design and engineering.
