Sixtus IV
Sixtus IV was a pope of the Roman Catholic Church who reigned from 1471 to 1484. Born Francesco della Rovere in 1414, he was known for his efforts to strengthen the papacy and promote the arts. His papacy is notable for the construction of the Sistine Chapel, which was named in his honor.
Sixtus IV also played a significant role in the politics of Italy during the Renaissance. He was involved in various alliances and conflicts, including the Pazzi Conspiracy against the Medici family in Florence. His reign marked a period of both artistic flourishing and political intrigue within the Church.
