Siccar Point
Siccar Point is a geological site located on the southeastern coast of Scotland, near the town of Eyemouth. It is famous for its striking rock formations, which illustrate a significant geological principle known as angular unconformity. This occurs when younger rock layers are deposited on top of older, tilted layers, providing insight into Earth's geological history.
The site gained prominence in the late 18th century when the geologist James Hutton studied it, leading to the development of modern geology. Siccar Point is now recognized as a key location for understanding the processes of sedimentation and erosion over millions of years.
