Selkups
The Selkups are an indigenous people of Russia, primarily residing in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Siberia. They traditionally speak the Selkup language, which belongs to the Uralic language family. Historically, the Selkups were semi-nomadic, relying on reindeer herding, fishing, and hunting for their livelihood.
Today, the Selkups face challenges in preserving their culture and language due to modernization and external influences. Efforts are being made to revitalize their traditions, including the promotion of Selkup folklore and crafts. The community continues to adapt while striving to maintain their unique identity in a changing world.
