Selkup language
The Selkup language is a member of the Uralic language family, specifically classified under the Samoyedic languages. It is primarily spoken by the Selkup people, an indigenous group residing in western Siberia, Russia. The language has several dialects, including Northern Selkup and Southern Selkup, which can vary significantly in pronunciation and vocabulary.
Selkup is considered a vulnerable language, with a declining number of speakers due to the influence of Russian and other dominant languages in the region. Efforts are being made to revitalize the language through education and cultural initiatives, aiming to preserve the unique heritage of the Selkup community.
