Scrapple
Scrapple is a traditional dish originating from the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, particularly popular in Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. It is made from pork scraps and trimmings, which are cooked down and combined with cornmeal, flour, and spices. The mixture is then formed into a loaf and allowed to cool and set.
Once firm, Scrapple is typically sliced and pan-fried until crispy on the outside. It is often served for breakfast, accompanied by condiments like maple syrup or apple butter. This dish reflects the resourceful cooking practices of early settlers who aimed to use every part of the animal.
