Scheduled Castes (SC)
Scheduled Castes (SC) are a group of historically marginalized communities in India, recognized in the Indian Constitution. They were previously referred to as "untouchables" and faced social discrimination and exclusion. The government provides affirmative action measures, such as reserved seats in education and employment, to promote their social and economic development.
The classification of SCs is part of a broader system of social stratification in India, which includes other categories like Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC). These classifications aim to address historical injustices and ensure equal opportunities for all citizens, fostering inclusivity and social justice.
