Roger of Lauria
Roger of Lauria was a prominent naval commander and military leader in the late 13th century. Born around 1250 in Sicily, he served under the Aragonese crown and played a crucial role in the War of the Sicilian Vespers, which was a conflict between the Aragonese and the Angevins of France.
He is best known for his strategic brilliance and successful naval battles, particularly the victory at the Battle of Modon in 1298. His tactics and leadership helped to secure Aragonese dominance in the Mediterranean, making him a key figure in the history of Sicilian and Mediterranean warfare.
