Richard Loeb
Richard Loeb was an American criminal born on June 11, 1905, in Chicago, Illinois. He is best known for his involvement in the infamous Leopold and Loeb case in 1924, where he and his accomplice, Nathan Leopold, kidnapped and murdered 14-year-old Bobby Franks. The case drew significant media attention due to the young age of the perpetrators and the brutal nature of the crime.
Loeb came from a wealthy family and was highly intelligent, having skipped several grades in school. His trial was notable for its use of the insanity defense, which was a groundbreaking legal strategy at the time.
