Nathan Leopold
Nathan Leopold was an American criminal born on November 19, 1904, in Chicago, Illinois. He is best known for his involvement in the infamous Leopold and Loeb case, where he and his friend, Richard Loeb, kidnapped and murdered 14-year-old Bobby Franks in 1924. The case drew significant media attention due to the young age of the perpetrators and the brutal nature of the crime.
Leopold and Loeb were both wealthy and highly educated, which added to the public's fascination with the trial. Their defense team, led by famed lawyer Clarence Darrow, argued that the boys were influenced by their intellectual pursuits and a desire to commit the "perfect crime." Ultimately, Leopold was sentenced to 33 years in prison, where he later became a model inmate and was released in 1958.
