Republic of Hawaii
The Republic of Hawaii was a short-lived independent nation that existed from 1894 to 1898. It was established after the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii, which had been ruled by Queen Liliʻuokalani. The republic was led by Sanford B. Dole, who became its first president and sought to promote economic growth and stability.
In 1898, the Republic of Hawaii was annexed by the United States through the Newlands Resolution. This marked the end of its sovereignty and led to Hawaii becoming a U.S. territory. The transition significantly impacted the islands' political and cultural landscape, shaping its future as a state.
